Tan Sri Mohd Hashim Abdullah Dies at 71: Former Malaysia Election Commission Chairman Passes Away After Heart Attack at IJN Putrajaya

Mohd Hashim Abdullah, former chairman of the Election Commission of Malaysia, has died at the age of 71 on April 10, 2026, following health complications.

According to reports, he suffered a heart attack earlier in the week and was initially treated at Putrajaya Hospital before being transferred to the National Heart Institute (IJN). While en route, he reportedly suffered another cardiac episode and received CPR, but later passed away at around 2 p.m.

Hashim served as chairman of the Election Commission from 2016 to 2018 and previously held key roles including secretary-general of the Agriculture Ministry. He also served as a board member at Universiti Malaysia Kelantan.

Details of his passing were shared by his daughter, Aleena Fatin, who outlined the sequence of medical events leading to his death.

Funeral prayers (solat jenazah) are scheduled to take place at Surau Al-Mizan after Maghrib prayers, with burial set to follow at Taman Selatan Muslim Cemetery after Isyak.

The Election Commission has expressed condolences, honoring his contributions and service to the nation.
